Common Waxbills (estrilda astrild) Hawaiian Finches eating grass seeds on the road to the Heiau (Hawaiian Temple)
The beautiful waxbill can be easily found and photographed on the road to the Heiau (Ancient Hawaiian Temple) located on the bluff just past Waimea Bay. At about 4" it is one of the smallest birds in Hawaii. First reported in the 1970s and is originally from Africa.
